Michelle LaFayette Named to WCLA Board of Directors

Ganan & Shapiro is proud to announce that Michelle LaFayette has been elected to the 2016 Board of Directors for the Workers’ Compensation Lawyers Association (“WCLA”). The WCLA is a bar association promoting fellowship among members of the Illinois bar engaged in the practice of workers’ compensation law, as well as providing continuing legal education for its members and legislative updates concerning workers’ compensation issues in the State of Illinois.

Michelle’s appointment represents her ongoing commitment to and involvement in the field of workers’ compensation law in Illinois. In addition to her recent appointment to the WCLA Board of Directors, she has served as the Secretary and Vice Chairperson for the Workers’ Compensation Section Council of the Illinois State Bar Association. This selection by her peers is not surprising given the level of respect that Michelle holds throughout the workers’ compensation community.

This appointment is also representative of the involvement of Ganan & Shapiro as a whole in the field of workers’ compensation, beyond the day-to-day defense of claims. All of our attorneys are members of the WCLA and two of our partners, Jerry Webb and Elaine Newquist, have served in the past as President of the organization. Several of our attorneys are members of the National Council of Self-Insurers (NCSI) and the International Association of Industrial Accident Boards and Commissions (IAIABC). We believe membership in such organizations provides our attorneys with invaluable insight into the workers’ compensation system in Illinois and industry trends throughout the country, to the ultimate benefit of our clients.
